If you think Dasara is Festival of only one day why I called it as “Dasara season” because the people from Mysore and all over Karnataka came to Mysore to join hands in Dasara celebration throughout the month which includes so many events, cultural programs, sports and much more.
Mysore Dasara was started by the Vijayanagar empire after their kingdom collapses the ruling king Yaduraya came to Mysore and initiate the festival of Dasara in the year 1610, then onwards this festival becomes state festival of Indian State of Karnataka.
Mysore Dasara is nine nights and one-day festival celebrated grandly by organizing entertaining events, food fair, Rallies, sports, Airshow, Paramotoring, Heliride, water motoring, cultural programs and many more.
Navaratri refers to nine nights in which nine different goddesses are being worshiped and the 10th day is called Vijayadashami is the day when Goddess Chamundi Kills the demon of Mysore called Mahisasura, hense it is called Victory of Good over evil.

Dasara Kannada Book Exhibition
Kannada Book Authority, Kannada and Culture Department, Mysuru Dasara Festival Committee will be jointly organizing Dasara Kannada Book Exhibition at the CADA premises from September 29th to October 7th, 2019.
The Authority has invited entries from reputed Kannada publishers and publishing houses to take part in the exhibition. Those who wish to set up their stall should draw the DDs separately (Rs.2,000 security deposit) in favor of Administrative Officer, Kannada Book Authority, Bengaluru.

Mysore Dasara Procession
On the 10th day of the Festival, i.e. Vijayadashami, the ‘Jamboo Savari’ or Elephant Procession is taken to the streets of the city. People come in thousands to witness the grand spectacle. The highlight of the procession is the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed in a Golden Howdah over a magnificently caparisoned elephant.
Many vibrant tableaus, dance groups, music troupes, royal traditional bands, decorated elephants, camels and horses etc., are all part of the procession. The procession starts from the Mysuru Palace and stops at the ‘Bannimantap,’ where the famous ‘Banni’ tree is worshipped.

The Dasara celebrations culminate on the night of Vijayadashami with the Panjina Kavayatthu (Torchlight Parade).
The original purpose of the event was to instill a sense of confidence in the people and to showcase the military might of the ruling King. Now, the occasion showcases the grandeur and majesty of the erstwhile rulers and offers the people a glimpse into the history of the state.
The program includes some dare-devil equestrian and motorcycle stunts by trained personnel, cultural programs, a laser show and some marvellous fireworks that light up the night.
